How well do you give thanks?

There are so many verses in the Bible about giving thanks. Here are just a sample of them

Psalm 75:1 “ give thanks to you, Oh god, we give thanks to you! We proclaim how great you are and tell  of the wonderful things you have done.

1 Chronicles 16 :8  give thanks to the Lord, proclaim his greatness; tell the nations what he has done.

Ephesians 5:20 in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always give thanks for everything, to God the Father.

2 Timothy 1:3 I give thanks to God whom I serve with a clear conscience,  as my ancestors did. I thank him as I remember you always in my prayers Day and night.

1 Peter 1:3 let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ because of his great mercy he gave us new life raising Jesus Christ from the dead this fills us with the living hope

Do you give thanks to God in the following seasons of life?

When we are In the midst of the hard seasons such as strife or anger or resentment or pain or brokenness or despair or rejection or jealousy or self-centredness, perhaps its more of a life changing season when waiting for a pregnancy or death of a loved one, or a time of illness or waiting for a diagnosis, waiting to buy a house, getting married, or finding the right person to share life with.  It can be hard to give thanks because our focus-is internalised on our woes or our situation. When we are in seasons of the happy, loving, joyful, life is good seasons it’s a lot easier to give thanks.

I have a friend who wrote a book on a thankful heart after tragic circumstances killed her daughter. She wrote a challenge to us all,  to Give thanks to God for 5 things each morning when you awake and each night before going to sleep. It changes not-only your thought life but in how you see the world around you. It doesn’t need to be the big things of life, it can be as simple as waking up to a new day, good health, a roof over our head, a meal to eat, friends who care and support and encourage us, transport from a to b, being in a good God focused church, finances to pay the bills, family, employment, technology that connects us to the world etc.  it could be as simple as God dying on the cross for our sins so we can live an eternal life.

There is so much to be thankful for.

What are 5 things you are thankful for today?

Lord we come to you, let our hearts be changed, renewed flowing of thankfulness for all you have done and continue to do in our lives today and always.
